A Week in the Life of a Growth HQ Work Experience Student

A Week at Growth HQ: Millie’s Behind-the-Scenes Look at Agency Life
This summer, we were delighted to welcome Millie, a Year 10 student, to Growth HQ for a week of work experience. We love opening our doors to students looking to learn, and Millie quickly became part of the team. We caught up with her at the end of the week to hear her thoughts on her time with us.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us why you chose Growth HQ for your work experience?
Hi! I’m Millie and I’m in Year 10 at secondary school. When I’m older, I’d love to work in an office environment, so I wanted to see what that might be like in real life. I chose to do my work experience at Growth HQ because of their connection to current trends that I’m interested in, in particular their work across social media and influencers. It looked like an exciting place to learn, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
What were you most excited or nervous about before starting?
I was a bit nervous at first, but I was really looking forward to being independent with my own work and meeting everyone in the office. I wanted to see how I would handle real tasks and be part of a professional team.
What new skills did you learn during your time here? Did anything surprise you about affiliate marketing?
I learnt loads of new skills during the week. I started with publisher prospecting and creating branded one-pagers, then moved onto retrieving data through various websites to gather inside information for certain spreadsheets, which I found really insightful. It was also really helpful to get some feedback from the team to see where I could improve. I also discovered how to use different tools to gather data and insights for spreadsheets, which was a new skill for me.
Before coming here, I didn’t realise how detailed affiliate marketing is or how much work goes into each partnership. I was surprised by the number of brands Growth HQ works with and promotes. It really opened my eyes to how big and varied the industry is.
How has this experience changed your understanding of how an agency works?
I didn’t expect agencies to be so closely connected with their clients and to go so in-depth on every campaign. I now understand how important it is to build strong relationships and constantly communicate to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Which task did you enjoy the most, and why?
I really enjoyed making the branded one-pagers because I had the chance to express my design ideas. I also liked working on the competitor audit, comparing different brands' sales and offers, because it was fun to see how each brand positions itself and what makes them stand out.
What was the most challenging part of your week? And what was your biggest takeaway?
The most challenging part was learning to use different websites to collect data and then organise it into spreadsheets. But this was also my biggest takeaway. Now I feel confident I could do it again in the future.
Can you sum up your experience in three words?
Beneficial, inspiring, and productive.
Millie’s week with us gave her a taste of agency life, from creative design to data analysis, and everything in between. It was a pleasure to see her curiosity and enthusiasm in action. We’re passionate about giving students a genuine, hands-on experience and showing them the energy and variety that comes with working in affiliate and partnership marketing.
